Ever felt like your impulses were stronger than you? We’ve all been there. Whether it’s overeating, scrolling endlessly on social media, or procrastinating on important tasks, losing control can feel frustrating and overwhelming. But don’t worry, you’re not alone. The good news is, with the right strategies, you can strengthen your self-control and take charge of your life.
1. Understand your Triggers:
- It's like playing detective with your own habits.
- Figure out what sets off your self- control. Could it be stress? Boredom? Guilt? Anxiety? Junk food?
- Once you identify what triggers you, it becomes easier to prepare a game plan for when those triggers attack!
2. Set Clear Goals:
- Don't just set ANY goals, make them very specific but realistic.
- Don't be vague and say "I want to have better self- control," that is not going to help you make progress.
- Be specific, like "I only want to spend 30 minutes on social media per day" or "I'm going to practice mindfulness/deep breathing when I'm overcome with stress or anxiety instead of doing (specified) activity.
